Paris will always hold such a dear place in my heart. If it wasn’t for the one year that I lived there, photography wouldn’t even be something that I’d imagined would be a part of my life significantly today. Before that though – and may I say before I commenced any actual travel – I saw the world through movies. For example, thanks to the movie Home Alone II, I’ve always associated The Plaza in Manhattan to the big apple we know as New York City. As Hotel Plaza Athénée was featured in my favourites Sex and The City series and the film Devil Wears Prada, even before I arrived in France I knew about this beautiful hotel and how much it epitomises the essence of Paris.
Simply walking along the street (by street I mean prestigious Avenue Montaigne) you cannot miss this hotel with their immaculate red awnings and windows. I always needed to pause, look up and be mesmerised by the whole exterior. It sits across from Christian Dior, beside Harry Winston and literally diagonal to the Eiffel Tower, Hotel Plaza Athénée has opulence imprinted geographically. I’d say if this was a guest seating list at a party, that’s where any girl would want to be.
Sebastian and I were very lucky to have been invited by Hotel Plaza Athénée during our visit this year and on the inside it was as magnificent as the outside, if not more. There is so much detailed luxury and beauty to see in every nook and corner and I couldn’t help but admire every thing as they are presented to your eyes in such artfulness. Best part was stepping into the suite and see out the balcony (or the living room window or even the bathroom window!) the ever stunning Eiffel Tower. Dreamiest bubble bath anyone?
I hope the photos depict the loveliness we enjoyed at this iconic part of Paris and I am very grateful for the experience. We loved the people as they made us feel comfortable and were very friendly with Sebastian (brownie points!!). They sweetly gifted him a teddy bear which he hugged fondly as we travelled back to Australia. If we ever return to Paris, and we will one day for sure, you’ll know where to find us.
